Federal Tax Credit For Commercial Solar - Who's Eligible and Why:
For years, the Federal Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC) has allowed homeowners and businesses to deduct 30% of their solar installation costs from their federal taxes, but after the approval of the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) the federal tax credit is now only available to commercial properties.
To claim the 30% ITC, a project must either:
1) Take Initial steps by July 4, 2026, and be placed in service within a four-year window (generally by Dec. 31, 2030),
Initial Steps Defined as: 5% of Significant work (Racks, cement) or 5% safe harbor (pay 5% of the expected cost) by July 4.
OR
Be placed in service by Dec. 31, 2027
